The trame work of Gingerich's mill, at Oak Hall, was raised last week. Mrs. James Smetzler, of this place, is seriously ill with an affection of the lungs. John Spangler brought a drove of about seventy head of cattle to town last week. He bought them up in Indi- ana county. Building follows building, and before long the station will be connected with the town, Tobacco farming is not carried on to the same extent in this valley, and even throughout the county, as in former years, Howard Spangler marshaled a fine parade through town one day last week. Andy Reesman has returned from his western trip after an absence of five weeks. He will not prepare to locate in the west, at least not for the present. Prof. H. F. Bitner, who was one of the instructors in the Kutztown State Normal. spent several weeks in a school up in Massachusetts, brushing up in some of the natural sciences, as he has accepted a professorship of natural sci- ences in the Millersville State Normal. J: D. Murray has given the baseball team permission to use his i¢ld: adjoin- ing Wolf's grove, to play ball in the re- mainder of the season. The Methodists in this place have been busy this week cleaning up in front of their church. They have put down a walk, built a new fence, porch and steps.
