Going After the “Slackers.”
A telegram received by Bherliff QG.
| H., Yarpell, of Centre county, from
Governor Brumbaugh, on Monday,
with regard to the treatment of non-
registrants, caused Sheriff Yarnell to
send the following notice to police and
constables of Centre county :
As ample notice and every oppor-
tunity has now been giver, and there
fs no lopger any arguwent apon
which non-registrants can be con-
doned, the period of leniency now hae
passeq ; therefore it is requested that
every eflort be now made to detect
and arrest persons subject to registra-
tion who nave pot registered, and to
bring each case promptly to the atten-
tion of the nearest representative of
the department of justice. It is the
duty of ail registiants to sssist Ip
pringing this matter to the attention
of constables avd police. The sec
retary of war construes section 5 of the
selective service law as requiring com-
pulsory registration by the officer
making the arrest, of each arrested
person immediately upon his convio~
tion.

Mre. Mary Elizabeth Bottorf, wife
of David Bottorf, of Reedsville, died
at the home of her son, Homer [reas-
ter, near Coburn, on Monday morn-
ing, of paralysis, Bhe bad been viasit-
ing at tne home of her soy for the past
three weeks and became ill 8 week

five daughters survive,
Mre. William Bhafler died suddenly
at her home near Zion on Thursday

dead. Mrs, Shafler was aged about
seventy-six years, and is survived by
her husband and eight children,
Burial was made at Zion on Monday.
