WOMEN SUFFERERS
NEED SWAMP-ROOT
Thousands upon thousands of women
have kidney and bladder trouble and never
suspect it,
Women's complaints often prove to be
oothing else but kidney trouble, or the
cesult of kidney or bladder disease.
If the kidneys are not in a healthy con
dition, they may cause the other organs
to become diseased.
You may suffer a great deal with pain
tn the back, headache, loss of ambition,
acrvousness and may be despondent and
irritable.
Don’t delay starting treatment, Dr.
Kilmer’s Swamp-Root, a physician's pre
scription, obtained at any drug store, re
stores health to the kidneys and is just
the remedy needed to overcome such con
ditions,
Qet a fifty cent or one dollar bottle ime
mediately from any drug store.
However, if you wish first to test this
great preparation send ten cents to Dr.
Kilmer & Co., Binghamton, N. Y., for a
sample bottle. When writing be sure and

DAIRY HERD IN WINTER
First Essential Is That Cows Be
Kept Comfortable.
Right Kind of Feed Goes Long Way
Toward Bringing About Contented
State of Mind-—Several Im-
portant Factors,
(By W, M. KELLY.)
Good stable management is an im-
portant factor in determining the
profits from the dairy herd during the
winter. The first essential is that the
cows be comfortable, because a cow
kept otherwise can never do her best,
She must have a comfortable place
to lie down, stand up, move and
stretch her limbs and lick herself all
over the body. She must have sun-
shine and plenty of light. She must
have pure air to breathe, and this
means that the stable must be pro
vided with some system of ventila-
tion to give a frequent change of air.
This need not be expensive, only a
little forethought and a few dollars
worth of material and labor. She
must have good pure water at least
twice a day or better still, have an
automatic water basin at her side.
The stable should be cleaned daily |
and be thoroughly disinfected. The |
ing, floor and sides should be all |
smooth and of con construction, |
and the fixtures largely fron. It is not
expensive, and they are sanitary and

ASHES GOOD AS FERTILIZER
r pails

They Not Oniy Contain Potash and
Phosphoric Acid, but Also
Magnesia and Lime.
The farmer who burns wood for
heating and coo’ ing should carefully
store the ashes and not permit them
to leach, as they nave a peculiar fer
tilizing value. They not only coftain
ciable amounts, but also contain mag.
nesia and lime, and when applied to
the land they also act indirectly to
increase the available nitrogen con-
tent of organic matter in the soil
Ordinary house ashes contain on
the average about eight or nine per
cent of potash and two per cent ot
phosphoric acid. Investigators have
considered that there is enough pot
ash and panosphoric acid in a oushel
of ashes to make it worth 20 or 25
cents. Besides that, some 10 or 16
cents additional might pe allowed for
the “alkali power” of the ashes. This
power is that which enables ashes to
rot weeds and to ferment peat. The
potash content of ashes will be lost if
they are permitted to leach, and care
should be taken to store them in &
dry place,
