NEW CIGARETTE LAW, |
Court lug'ructed Constables to Arrest All
Yivistors of this Law,
On making their quarterly returns
to the court, Juige E'lis I. Orvis de-
fined the cigarette law to the several
constables of the county, and instruct- |
ed them to arrest all violators of the
law. So there can be no pleading of
ignorance, the law is being printed in
full by many of the newspapers in the
rural districts, and the Reporter is
doing its share in making the law
public by publishing it, which fol.
lows :
** Any person who shall furnish to
any minor, by gift, sale, or otherwise,
any cigarette or cigarette paper, shall
be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon
conviction thereof shall be sentenced
to pay a fine of not less than $100, nor
more than $300.
‘“ Avy minor, being in possession of
a cigarette or cigarette paper, and be-
ing by any police cflicer, constable,
juvenile court cfficer, truant officer,
or teacher in any school, asked where
and from whom such cigarette or ci
garette paper was obtained, who shal
refuse to furnish such ioformation,
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction thereof, before
any alderman, magistrate, or justice
of the peace, such minor, beiog of the
age of sixteen years or upwards, shall |
be sentenced to pay a fine not exceed- |
ing five dollars, or to undergo sn im-
prisonment in the jiil of the proper
county not exceediog five days, or
both. Ifeuch minor shall be under
the age of sixteen years, he or sheshall |
be certified by such alderman, msg- |
istrate or justice of the peace to the
juvenile court of the county, for such
action as to said court shall deem
proper.”

Aged Lady has Bad Fall,
Mra, D C. Hess, an estimable old
lady of Linden Hall met with a seri-
ous accident Bunday morning, which,
owing to her advanced age, is feared
by her many friends will prove fatal.
Mrs. Hess is in her eighty-third
year and had been enjoying good
health up until about a month sgn
when a slight stroke of paralysis left
her in a very weak condition. BRhe
