Lemont.
Jared Mayes, son of J. B. Mayes, of
this place is home for a few weeks’
visit under the parental roof. For
about 4 years be has been a resident of
the west, most of the time in Bt,
Louis. During the Pan-American he
was employed on a trolley line
between Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
Frank Mayes, another son of J. B.
Mayes, having taking to himself a
wife a few weeks ago, has commenced
house keeping in a snug cottage just
south of the Presbyterian church.
Miss Klsie Krise of Centre Hall
spent several days in this place, as the
guest of her friend, Mrs. Mary Glenn,
nee Brisbin,
On last Friday the sehool at Houser:
ville, taught by Harry Long, gave
an intertainment, consisting of
speeches, dialogues, ete. Several of
the young people of Lemont assisted
in making the exhibition a success.
Mr. and Mrs. B. Brisbin, spent Sat-
urday and Sunday with their daughter,
Mrs, Ballie Williams, at State College.
Only one case of hog colera has been
reported io this neighborhood at the |

seventeen shot to kill the Intter,

fine teams of horses,
The sick in this neighborhood are,

linda Heaten, James Palmer, besides a
number of cases of measles among
children.

Charles Guiswite and Samuel Ket-
ner returved from Yeagertown; they
must have learned the trade of grind-
iug axes in full for they do vot expect
to return. No place like Woodward,
Hurry Runkle returved to Winbur,
where he is engaged in painting,
Miss Ida Vouada, Jerry Vonada's
housekeeper, has been sick for some
time; she is improving but not yet able
to be up.
Oliver Hosterman expects to leave
on the 9th for Buffalo, where he is en-
gaged io baking. While home he shot
thirty-four pheasants, two gray squir-
rels and some rabbits.
Last Saturday was a good day for
rabbits; John J. Orndorf and party
killed fifceen;John Fultz and party
eleven, while other parties killed from
one to five,
Thanksgiving day Clare and Mil-
ford reser, of Fiedler, killed two
black bears sou'h of t bs place; one old

hunters were very much excited and
it Is reported they were out on Bunday
to hunt for Lear.
George Vonada, wife and son, of
Brush Valley, were over on Tuesday
