The Union-Soyder-Mifflin judicial
district is having a hot time. Judge
MeClure and Samuel H. Orwig, Esq.,
are registering candidates in Union
county, and are making house to house
canvasses, and are resorting to every
known political means, commendable
or otherwise, to gain advantage. The
surrounding districts should learn a
lesson from observation, and when
their turn comes to fill this important
office, refrain from such belittling po-
litical methods,

Senator C. L. Magee, of Pittsburg,
politician and philanthropist, died at
his Harrisburg home Friday evening
of last week. Benator Magee was one
of the representative Republicans of
Western Pennsylvania, and had much
to do with the shaping of legislation
