Davy Ruhl, the popular Spring Mills
landlord, was the real choice of the
Republican voters for sherifl, and the
most deserving in that party. But
twisters and shufflers at the county
seat put Mr. Ruhl overboard in favor
of the pliable Jacob Herman, Mr.
Ruhl and his friends were ignomin-
ously snubbed. In the nomination of |
Cyrus Brungart, on the other hand, |
the sentiment of the people was re-
spected.

Farmers are now discussing the prie- |
es asked for barbed wire. The fact |
is brought out that the wire for which |
they paid $1.75 per 100 pounds one |
year ago, now costs them $4.50. This
is prosperity with a string to it, espec-
ially in view of the fact that wheat is |
lower than last year and prices gene- |
rally for farm products at a discourag-
ing point. The bottom has not
dropped out of taxes, either.
Adams, for being connected with |
swindling companies, was compelled |
to resign from the Republican ticket |
for superior judge.
Now there are still two more fellows
that should be hauled off, namly : Bar-
pett, for hiding behind rice dykes
when battles were going on, now the
candidate for state treasurer. And,

Philip H. Meyer's private life and
record have the ring of honesty, puri-
ty and uprightoess throughout ; a life-
long farmer, a tax-payer, he is inter
ested in having good house-keeper in
our county affairs, and he promises
he'll do it—<his word is good as any
man’s bond,
When you have men of the stamp
of Heckman and Meyer it should be a
plessure, as it is a duty, for all honest
men to cast their votes for them-—and
they will,

The Westmoreland chairman men-
tioned to Reeder that the big fudge-
ship fight in his county intensified the
campaign feeling, and joecal Republican
disaster might result from bringing
Barnett there. County Chairman

ette, like Armstrong and Westmore-
land, has a hot judgeship contest, and
Chairman Crow, like his, Westmore-

A canvass of the towns mentioned,
as well as of other places, proves that
the unpopularity of Barnett among the
Tenth regiment soldiers cannot be suc-
cessfully denied by the Quay mana
gers. A host of reputable witnesses,
professional and business men, would
drise against them if necessary. It is
supposed that about two-thirds of the
regiment are Republicans, and it is as-
serted by many of these in the differ-
ent counties referred to that a large
majority of the Republican soldiers
will vote against Barnett,
Philadelphia Record correspondents
have interviewed a large number of
these anti-Barnett Republican mem-
bers of the Tenth, and have obtained
permission to use some of the names in
connection with their stories covering
different sorts of accusations against
their leutenant colonel, It is alleged
