It is appalling that thousands of Hafley
Republicans should desire to have Mr.
Quay elected to the Senate for a third
term knowing that he is covered all
over with dishonesty and knowing
that he falls far short of the qualifica-
tions required to represent the great
state of Pennsylvania in the United
States Senate, There are pure and
able Republicans, Wanamaker, Dal-
zell, Grow, and others, that would be
eredit to our state in that
dy, yet it would seem a great majority
of the Republicans prefer machine
boss to an honest and capable man io
the senate,
Great credit is due the Independent
Republicans who refuse to touch or to
be bossed by Quay. They are on the
eve of bringing about the much need-
ed Reform with the assistance of the
Democrats, With the erushing of the
machine Pennsylvania will be freed
from a gang of plunderers that set in
the shade carpet-bag rule in the south
after the close of the war.
