A despateh from Washington, D. C.,
says: —The House of Representatives Wed-
nesday by a vote of 322 to 19, and after one
of the most exciting days in its history,
adopted a resolution which is regarded vir-

with the purpose of establishing, by the free
action of the people of Cuba, a stable and
independent government on the island, The
President is authorized to use the land and
naval forces of the United States to carry
out the purposes of the resolution. The
democratic members of the foreign aflalrs
committee reported a minority resolution
declaring for armed Intervention and the
recognition of the Cuban republic. The
scene in the House was one of the most dis-
graceful ever witnessed there, and at one
time a free fight seemed imminent.
