Wc Mp
Valae of Farm Lands.
AN interesting feature of the
of the Secretary of Agriculture
reference to the value of farm lands,
In comparing the indebtedness of the
farmers, his figures show an enormous |
and constant indebtedness of the banks |
and bankers, alongside of which
money, farm mortgages
debts owed by farmers
insignificant. The debts of railroads, |
bankers, manufacturers and merchants
entitle them, and not the farmers, to
be called the ‘debtor class’ Ameri-
ca.”
In conclusion he says: ‘The value
of farm lands, being governed by the
relation of the supply of those lands to
the demand for them, will, therefore
steadily increase. The area of supply
remains stationary, or from careless
tillage decreases. But the added mill-
fons of our population intensify our de-
mand. Therefore the prices of farms
must in the next twenty years, and
possibly in ten years, advance more
markedly than those of urban real es-
tate. The owners of fertile fields,
sowever, must understand now that
agriculture is swiftly becoming a sci-
entific profession. The more the far-
mer cultivates his mind the better
and more profitably he can cultivate
his fields.”

Lewins Keeps Open.
Mr. Lewins still does, and will con
tinue to sell clothing at the old stand,
cheaper than ever.
~The cold weather coming on will
require heavier and thicker clothing,
as protection against thie wintry blasts.
Lewins, Bellefonte, has a full new
lite, and the prices are lower than
any in the county. He has never been
undersold.
