A Famous House,
In the old Gibson house, at Glbson'’s
Rock, Perry county, there is a remark-
able room in which occurred the births
of a number of men whose names stand
high upon Pennsylvania's scroll
honor. The men born there were:
John Banister Gibson, chief justice su-
preme court of Pennsylvania; General
George Gibson, commissary of the U.
S.; John Bernheisel, the Mormon
preacher; Hon. John Bigler, Governor
of California from 1852 to 1855; Hon,
Wm. Bigler, Governor of Pennsylva-
nia from 1852 to 1855. It is a
dence that both the Biglers occupied
Gubernatorial chairs at the same time,
an honor never before conferred upon
one family.

~—We love flowers and were great-
ly plessed to have a large bouquet pre-
sented to us from the handsome flower
beds of Mrs. Rev. Eisenberg, where va-
riety and loveliness beautify the par-
sonage yard. In appreciation of this
remembrance the lady will consider
our best hat tipped.
It was erroneously stated in our
last issue that Miss Sue Nefl had sail-
ed the week previous for Europe. In-
stead she will sail on Saturday, Aug-
ust 31st, expecting to remain several
years. Miss Neff has traveled all over
the United States and will see all the
sights on the other side of the globe.
Her many friends will wish her bon
voyage.
—We had the pleasure of a half
hour's chat with the venerable James
Evans, of near Penn Hall, accompa-
nied by his son, Rev. L. K. Evans, of
Pottstown, Pa., where he has faithful-
ly served the Reformed charge for 24
years, a distinction which not many
divines can boast of. Father Evans
is now 83 years old, with the spryness
and health glow of 70. As son-in-law
of Judge Kreider, mentioned in our
last issue as one of Gregg township's
original settlers, Mr. and Mr. Evans
are connected with a family of local
prominence in the early day. The on-
ly surviving cousin, of many, of moth-
er Evans, is Mrs. Wm. Harter, of Aa-
ronsburg and mother of Mrs, Kurtz of
