    COBURN,
Oar Correspondent,
Andrew Harter made a flying trip to
Altoona on Saturday to meet his wife
state of Ohio for the last few weeks.
A. J. Campbell is at present work-
ing near Woodward, on the Harter
timber tract framing prop timber,
Frank Hackenberg and wife after
spending the summer at Lewisburg,
came home one day last week to re-
main all winter,
Elmer Kooney is this week in Brush
valley working at the carpenter trade
for Mr. Stitzer, his brother-in-law.
J. F. Garthofl’ has a cactus in his
window that has one hundred and
thirty-three full grown flowers on it.
It’s a beauty.
A party of our local hunters are
away on a two weeks’ hunt on the Al-
legheny mountains. When they
turn, bear and deer no doubt will be
scarce in that region. Eph. Bartholo-
mew accompanied them as chief cook
and baggage master,
Rev. Wolf, of the Lutheran church
will administer the Lord's supper to
the congregation at this place on Sun-
day morning at ten o'clock.
Rev. J. C. Young, of Pleasant Gap
preached a very spirited sermon to the
Patriotic Order Sons of America, in
the Lutheran church at this place on
last Friday evening. The Order to the
number of thirty or more were wear-
ing full uniform and occupied the front
seats, Mr. Young is a very able speak-
er at times becoming very eloquent
and oratorical.

On Tuesday a deer, evidently driven
from the mountains by dogs was play- |
fully browsing in fields near Fiedler, |
coming near the farm house of Mr. |
Bradford; from there it started across |
the valley towards Brush mountain, |
soon the whole neighborhood
aroused and gave chase, at least a doz- |
en shots having been fired at it; at last |
John Guisewite near Wolf's Chapel, |
fired at it and laid it low; it weighed |
one hundred and twelve pounds. This |
was the second deer thal was shot in |
the valley near that place within the
last two weeks. Deer seem to be plen- |
ty in that section.
Mr. Arb Catherman, of Williams- |
port is attending to the duties at the |
station, in the absence of (i. R. Stover,
who is off on a short vacstion.

Suicide at Northamberlaad,
Tomer Philips, resident of Northum- |
berland, while under the influence of |
strong drink, Wednesday afternoon,
concluded to leave this wicked world |
by the laudanum route. He had pro-
cured two different bottles of two
ounces each at different drug stores,
and then announced his determina-
tion to go out of this world. He went
to the Palmer House and called for a
drink of beer and emptied the contents
of one bottle into it. He quickly
swallowed the dose but was relieved of
