MILLHEIM,
Iuteresting Items from Millhelm and Vi.
oinity. i
On last Saturday evening our town
was crowded with people. The young |
ladies were out in full force, with their |
best duds on. Millheim has more
pretty girls to the acre than any town
of its size in America or Europe.
We have a few of the most accom-
modating ducks in this town that can
be found anywhere, All that is nec-
essary is to throw out a few grains of
corn or wheat and they will march
right into your stable and lay an egg
every day; at least this is the rumor,
Will a certain person tell what his ex-
perience is in this matter. i
Our town is beginning to look all |
right. On Main street the people are
cleaning up and hauling the refuse |
away, consequently it improves the |
appearance very much; but some of |
the board walks need repairing.
Mountain fires ave raging fiercely in |
Brush valley and Penns valley. In
the Gap north of Millheim the fire
burned down to the pike; much tim- |
ber has been destroyed.
The chap who says he caught two |
trout measuring fifteen and sixteen!
inches respectively, at Billy Weaver's
dam last week, is not believed by many
of our fishermen. A fisherman who |
caught such fish would most certainly |
show up. Too thin, too thin—It looks |
very fishy. |
On Saturday afternoon Prof. Rearick |
and wife of Spring Mills, visited our |
town on bicycles, creating quite a sen- |
sation, she being the first lady bicy- |
elist who has gone through the town.
She is an expert rider, having made a
trip from Spring Mills to Centre Hall
in 45 minutes.
Nev. Auman has opened
cream saloon in the room near the!
bank and no doubt will do well as he
is quite an expert at making ice cream.
Danny Zeigler is home from Centre
Hall and will stay a few days with his |
family; plant his potatoes and do the |
chores about the house.
The busiest man in our town is John
Kerstetter, the planing mill man. He
employs from five to seven hands and |
is supplied with all the different ma- |
chinery necessary to run a first-class
planing mill, and is prepared to make
all kinds of furniture, and. especially
church furniture.
Hon. J. P. Gephart, Jamed D. Me-
Kee, George Gross and James McFad-
den, all of Bellefonte, were in town |
last week on business and for pleasure. |
William T. Buck, father of Walter
Buck, the well-known tailor, died on
Thursday morning at the residence of
his son in this boro. Mr. Buck wasa
soldier of the late war, and was buried
on Saturday last in the Union ceme-
tery. The GG. A. R. took the body in
charge, Rev. Illingsworth conducting
the services,
years,
Prof. Neff can beseen on the street
nearly every evening horseback rid-
ing; sometimes he has a young lady in |
charge. The Prof. is an expert rider.
