BRECKINRIDGE'S SIN,
Tue sin of Breckinridge meets with |
no apologists neither from the press, |
the pulpit nor from the public in gen- |
eral. This is a commendable fact and |
should be noted by the libertines who |
step before the world with impudent |
mien proud of their licentiousness and |
their success in having ruined one of
the weaker There ure other
Breckinridges upon whom the shame |
of lasciviousness rests and the finger of
scorn is pointed by the virtuous and |
pure in society. The libertine the
enemy of the purity of society, his foul
deeds are shielded only by such as are |
as much lost to shame as the lustful |
subject who has brought ruin upon his |
victim and shame upon her family.
No decent man or woman will seek
to apologize for those who have been |
discovered in a life of lewdness while |
they were posing as decent members
of society and the church, thereby en- |
deavoring to hide a life full of rotten- |
ness. Breckinridge having fn
man of prominence, the public does
right in showing so loudly that it de-
tests his sin, and those in the lower
walks can measure from it how
are sized up by the decent class in
their respective communities,
outspoken contempt for Breckinridge,
on account of his prominence, exits all
the same for the libertines in the
er walks and only finds expression in
a more quiet way.

nomination of congressman W. P. (
Breckinridge by giving a grand recep-
tion to his principal opponent, W. C
Owens. It is said that the feminine
opponents of Col. Breckinridge
boycotting the merchants who support
his eandidacy, and others are dismis-
sing their family physicians for the
same reason.
By dealing out just exeeration in
this manner against such wretches,
it is simply what their sin deserves.

Tue Coxey army is Kept «
Faubles,
their camp at Hyattsville, Md.
to compel them to get out.
camp now is, We used to offer them
the nobby Centre Hall pic-nie ground,
but have changed our mind, we don’t
want the pic-nic quarters to get lousy,
and so Coxey can’t have it—that's all.
The western Coxey contingents are
still marching eastward, and getting
themselves into trouble stealing freight
trains and by proving a nuisance gen-
erally.

OvR county did not furnish any re-
cruits for Coxey's army, but it beats
the dickens for furnishing governors,

TABERNACLE BURNED,
Talmage's Charch in Ruins, Loss Over a
Million Dollars,
For the third time fire has razed the
tabernacle of Dr. Talmage's Brooklyn
congregation. On Sunday last flames
burst out at noon just after the morn-
ing service and before they were sub-
dued they had destroyed am adjoining
hotel and damaged a number of resi-
dences,
The fire started in the great organ
and was caused by an electric light
wire. Fortunately it started shortly
after noon when all the 6000 worship-
pers at the morning service had left,
excepting some less than a hundred,
ns the fire spread so rapidly that amid
the panic many would not have got-
ten out and would have been burnt,
The total loss by the fire is upwards
of 2 million dollars, the loss to the con-
gregation is over 1 million and the in-
surance only $150,000. The Trustees
have resolved to rebuild at once and
complete the new edifice within a
year.
The two previous churches were also
destroyed by fire on Sundays,
