MILLEHEIM, Arrangements Made for the Proper Ob- servance of Decoration Day. On last Thursday, Ascension day, nearly one hundred young people from town and Brush valley, spent the day along Elk creek in the gap; sixty men, boys and girls strictly counted, were angling for the finny tribe. How many fish were caught, and how many missed we are not able to say, We saw some baskets that were well filled. Fires on the mountains south of town, were burning briskly along the tramway on John F. Duncan's tracts, A number of men were fighting fire for two days. Every fine evening some ten or twelve bicyclists are seen on our streets presenting quite a fine appearance; some very expert riders, On last Saturday afternoon the G. A. R. met in their hall, where full and complete arrangements were made for the proper observance of Decoration day at St. Pauls, Wolfs, Aaronsburg, | and Millheim. The “Index Medicine Co.” that was billed to stay two weeks, left on Mon- day morning for Woodward. Lack of | patronage no doubt caused them to | leave. What next? D. D. G. M. Fred Weber and Sam- | uel Ishler, of Boalsburg, registered at | the National hotel. They had been to | tebersburg to inspect a new room to | be occupied by the Odd Fellows, While here they managed to talk a lit- | tle polities; both Democrats, but think | the party should be very careful in the | selection of candidates for the differ | ent offices to be filled this fall. i John Burns, the man who had his | knee cap split some months ago, is { able to go to work again. i How would it sound to have Hon. | attached to the name of James Keller | —we think he would make a good As- | sociate Judge. Quitea number have | talked about it and think that he] should announce himself as a candi- | date. Henry Brown, of Hublersburg, who | had an operation performed in the re- | moval of a tumor some weeks ago, is improving fast and no doubt will soon | be able to leave for his home. i Will Foster and Bob Foster, of State | College and one or two others, were up in the Gap fishing for trout, with what | success we do not know as they did | not stop in town long enough to show | up. i Among the attractions on Decora- | tion day will be a parade of the bicy-| clists; some twenty are expected; their | parade will be about six o'clock, p. m., | as the Decoration services will be over | by half past four o'clock. The Re- i formed church will hold a festival in | the evening. The town will be finely | decorated with arches, bunting and | flags. rs f— Mo Coburn Happenings. : John Hoffa and Geo. Stover were to | Brushvalley on a two days’ fishing ex- | cursion, on Monday and Tuesday, but | they report a light catch. C. K. Sober shipped a car load of mining timber from this station, last | Saturday, ready framed, for use in the mines. This is a new departure in | such timber. i Jacob Emerick, C. E. Finkle and 8, | G. Rote, all of this place, bought a | large tract of timberland in Sugar val- | ley, and went thither with a large | crew of men, on Monday, to begin | peeling. ’'Squire Garthoff, one day last week, while out on the mountains | watching the fire, came in contact with a large rattle snake; his snake- ship was soon dispatched, and was found to be over three feet long and to have eight rattles. A vicious dog belonging to Lewis Snavely, on Baturday evening made an attack on his master, something very unusual for a dog to do, and bit him in both hands in a frightful man- ner, the flesh being lacerated and torn into shreds. Dr. Frank was sent for and dressed the wounds. Mr, Snave- ly suffered intense pain from being thus bitten. The dog was shot by his son the same evening. ————— AY A AAAI Where to Get a BICYCLE. W. L. Goodhart, prop'r of the Mill- heim Agricultural Impl. House, has the agency for Wheels, high and low grade, both new and second hand, of any manufacture, from $16 up to $150. He has the sole control of Penns Val- ley for the Union Wheel, which is strictly high grade and first-class in every respect. Mr. Goodhart's relia- bility is unquestioned. 10my4t rion mis— As one result of the soft coal famine, and the consequent closing of furna- oes, nearly 300 Hungarians and about fifty Italians have left Braddock, Pa., during the past week for their native lands ; and with a prolongation of the miner's strike the exodus might be expected to assume much larger pro portions.
