Less ons on Hard Times
After all it is the hard times that |
bring out the real merit of men and |
methods. Flush times and easy prof- |
its in business never make the best
men, nor the most prosperous commu-
nities. Hard times teach self denial |
and retrenchment, close attention to |
details and careful selections of the
best possible methods. Less is wasted; |
goods are bought and sold for more |
nearly their intrinsic value; specula- |
tion is discouraged and honest efforts
fostered. Lessons learned by unpleas-
ant necessity in hard times will pro-
duce prosperity in the long run. The
pinching experience is hard to bear
while it lasts, but it will, as the old |
saying goes, ‘feel better after it gets |
done hurting.”
In the face of difficulties, manhood |
comes to the front, and the country is
the gainer in the end.
