DID THE SON MURDER HIS FATHER? Murder in Perry County — James Carpen- ter's Body Found in the Creek, Prodnce Merchant James Carpenter was probably murdered near Port Roy- al, Perry county, on Monday night. His shoes and stockings were found « on the-banks of Tuscarora Creek, and there was a trail of blood from a rocky bluffover the stream to the water. The body was found about one o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the mouth of Tuscarora creek where it empties in- to the Juniata river. A knife wound in the back of the neck and two ugly bruises on the head confirm the sus- picion that Carpenter was murdered and then thrown into the creek. James Carpenter, a son of the mur dered man, is suspected of having com- mitted the erime and was arrested to- day and committed to the Newport jail in default of bail to await the re sult of the coroner's investigation. There is great excitement in the com- munity over the murder and it is the general opinion that young Carpenter Killed his parent to get possession of his money. The murdered man was about fifty- six years old and his accused son is in thirty-first year. The father was an extensive produce dealer and is thought to have accumulated considerable money. sami———————— SPRING MILLS. Interesting Items from Oar Neighboring Town, Mrs. W. W.
