Too Much Jamaica Ginger. At the Eighth avenue M. FE. church last Friday Rev. Leidy, of Bellwood, Revs. Brill and Gilbert, of Tyrone, Rev. Miller, of Altoona, and three oth- pal church, appointed by Rev, Hamlin, presiding elder of this distriet were assembled to hear the testimony in a case against Rev, R. EK, Wilson, pastor of the Simpson Methodist Episcopal church, this city, on the charge of intoxication, made by mem- bers of his congregation. Testimony was offered by several witnesses to the effect that on Novem- ber 3, while en route to Roanoak to at- tend a convention of the Railroad Men's Christian association, Rev. Wil- son became intoxicated and remained in that condition for some time; that theré was no liquor found about him, but he had an unmistakable appear- ance of being under its influence, The defense made was that while at Harrisburg, where Rev. Wilson and | some more of the party remained over | night, he was taken sick and for relief | took some jamaica ginger, getting an | overdose of it. A bottle of jamaica ginger was taken from Rev. Wilson while in this condi- | tion by some of the party he was with. | The bottle was about two-thirds emp- | ty. | The hearing continued all day, and | Tuesday night a verdiet of guilty of intoxication without immoral conduct | was given. Rev. Wilson was not cen- | sured and will probably appear in his | church on Sunday as usual.—Altoona | Gazelle, i commen fl Pronounced Hopeless Yeot Saved, | From a letter written by Mrs. Ada | E. The ordinary tar- | iff is 89 for five minutes’ conversation. The instruments used on it are so per- fect that even a whisper can be success- | between as | fully transmitted scross the 950 miles. | At present only about six five-minute conversations in each hour can be put upon a long-distance circuit, as one- | half the time is consumed in establish- | ing connection, making appointments, | ete, for which there was no charge. i —— Shortest on Record, The Lewisburg correspondent of the | Williamsport (rif chronicles a recent proceeding which will go on record. | He says: “A unique method of divorcement | has been invented by a Lewisburg col- i ored woman that is worthy of a pat- | ent right.
