He was a plasterer by trade, and in 1856 took the contract of plastering the exterior of the court house in Bellefonte, making an ex- cellent job of it. As he advanced in years he turned hisattention to garden- ing, and became well-known as the first man to raise early plarits and veget- ables in this country. About three years ago he became lame from an ingrowing toe nail which finally turned into gangrene.
