Fry, a well known farmer of Pine Grove
township, died suddenly of apoplexy,
aged 70 years, Two weeks ago his wile
died in a similar manner.

ont checks on the Penn National bank,
where he had no deposit, Tinner A, B.
Slechter has been arrested, and in de-
fault of bail committed to jail.
BernLEREM, Pa., May 12.—Snyder's
planing mill and five houses were de-
stroyed by fire at Weissport, near here,
yesterday. Loss $80,000. The fire was
sup to be of incendiary origin,
LesanNoN, Pa., May 12.—Three chil-
dren of William Rhine, residing on
West Lehman street, this city, died of
black measles within two days. There
are other cases of the diseasein the same
neighborhood.
MEepia, Pa,, May 11.—William Done-
hower has been sworn in to Sill the of-

courts, made vacant by the death of
William D. Thomas, until the office is
filled by the governor.
ALLENTOWN, Pa., May 9.—The inquest
on the body of Calvin Brensinger, the
boy whose mysterious death led to the
arrest of William Hallman, his step-
father, has been adjourned until the an-
alysis of the boy's stomach is completed.
The evidence thus far adduced is strong
against the aceused.

PHILADELPHIA, May 12. —George W.
Lawrence, 29 years, of New York, a
member of the *“‘Ship-a-Hoy" company,
now periorming at the Girard theatre,
was found dead yesterday in his room,
on the third floor of 1014 Race street.
He had been snfocatel by toning on
the gas without lighting it.
Princerows, Pa., May 9--Samnel
Schmehl, a wealthy retired farmer who
resided near this village, died after a
short illness, aged 16 years, Two works
ago he was robbed of $2,500 in cash and
notes. This troubled him greatly, and
he at once took to his bed, which
never left, his death finally resulting
from grip.
Norristown, Pa., May 12.—The dead
body of John Hoffmann, a prosperous
Gwynedd township farmer, was found
hanging in his barn. Hoffmann was
about 45 years of age, ummnarcied, and
lived on the homestead property. When
found the body was cold in death.
Hoffmann, it is believed, was mentally
unbalanced.
Prrrseura, May 11.—It isnot at all
improbable that there will be a clash in
July between the Amalgamated Asso-
ciation of Iron and Steel Workers and
the manufacturers. All the Pittsburg
Jodges and some of those outside have
voted the $6 a ton rate for puddling.
This is an advance of fifty cents a ton,
and the mannfacturers will doubtless re-
sist its payment,
Pirrsevra, May 9. —James McNally,
a Koch lymph patient, will be dis-
charged from the West Penn hospital
Monday with a certificate from his phy-
sicians as being cured of consumption.
McNally has been under treatment for
three months. Two other lymph pa.
tients, both women, left the hospital
yesterday with certificates of cure, buat
the hospital authorities withheld their
names,
Reaping, Pa., May 11.—Harry Zech
man, about 9 years old, was dragged to
death by a cow yesterday afternoon on
the farm of his brother-in-law in 1 North
Heidelburg, He had the cow out graz-
ing along along the road and had a rope
fastened to her neck. The animal took
fright and started on a run. Young
Zechman had the rope fastened around
his arm and was unable to get it loose,
