He did not limp, and gave the jury a
sample of his walk
To give a conclusive ilinstration of
his claim that Lingo's teeth could not
have inflicted the lacerated wounds on
Mrs. Miller's hand, Judge Wescott told
the prisoner to bite hig hand, locating
to him the spot where Mrs. Miller's
hand was wounded. Lingo caugbt the
hand of his counsel between the teeth
and ii on the flesh rather gingerly.
“Bite harder.” cried the ex-judge;
“harder, harder yet.” Then, with a
sudden wince of pain, he exclaimed,
“That's enough.” Judge Wescott's
hand was deeply marked by the nogro's
teeth as he showed it to the jury. Lingo
also bit into a cake of soap, which was
given to the jury as a part of the evi-
ence,

swers in a cool, deliberate way, and did
