Y.) Demociral, ~On the first day of June, 1881, 1 lsy at my residence in this city sar- rounded by my friends and waiting for death, Heaven only knows the agony i then endured, for wo'ds can never describe it. And yet, if a few years previous any one had told me that I was to be brought so low. and by so terrible a disease, I should have scoffed at the idea. I had always been uncom- monly strong and healthy, and weighd over 200 pounds, and hardly knew, in my own experience, what pain or sick- ness were, very many people who will read this statement realize at times they are unusually tired and cannot ac- sonnt for it. They feel dull pans in various parts of the body and do not anderstand why, Or they are exceed- | ingly hungry one day and entirely with- ut appetite the next. This was just the way I felt when the relentless mal- ady which had fastened itself npon me first begar, Still I thought nothing of it; that probably I had taken a cold which would soon pass away. Shortly after this I noticed a heavy, and at! times neuralgie, pain 1m one side of my head, but as 1t would come one day and bre gon o the next, I paid little attention to it. ‘Then my stomach would get ous of de and my food often failed to digest, causing at vimes great incon- venience. Yet, even as a physician, I did not think that these things meant anything serious. I fancied I was suf- fering from malaria and doctored myself aceordingly. But I got no better, I next noticed a peculiar color and odor about the fluids f{ was passing—also that there were large quantities one day and very little the next, and that a per- sistent froth and scum appeared upon the surface, and a sediment settied And vet I did not realize my danger, for, indeed, seeing these symptoms con- tinually, I finally became accustomed to them, and my suspicion was wholly lisarmed by the fact that J Aad no vain in the affected organs or in their vicinity, Why I should have been so blind I cannot understand. 1 consulted the best medical skill 1 | the land, I visited all the famed min- | eral springs in America and traveled Wing sLory the B Hin: its dan. The welfare of those who may possibly be sufferers such as 1 was is an ample inducement for me to take the step I have, and if I can successfully warn others from the dangerous path in which I once walked, H am willing to endure ull the profess. nal and personal consequences, J. Dr. Foote, at | bat time rector of St, Paul's Episcopal shurch, of this city, 1 felt that it was sur last interview, but in the course of ronversation Dr. Foote detailed to me she many remarkable cures of cases like my own which had come under his ob- servation. As a practicing physician ind a graduate of the schools, I derided the idea of any medicine outside the regular channels being in the Jeast seneficial. Bo solicitous, however, was Dr. Yoote, that I floally promised I would waive my prejudice. I began its ase on the first day of June, 1881, and wok it according to directions. At first t sickened me; but this I thought was 1 good sign for one 1m my debilitated sondition, I eontinued to take it; the sickening sensation departed and I was inally able to retain food upon my stomach. In a few days I noticed a de- sided change for the better, as also did my wie and friends, My hicooughs seased and I experienced less pain than formerly, 1 was so rejoiced at this im- proved condition that, upon what I had believed but a few days before was my ayiog bed, I vowed, in the presence of ay family and friends, should I recover I would both publicly and priyately make known this remedy for the good »f humanity, wherever and whenever 1 had an opportunity, and this letter is in fuiilment of that vow, My improve- ment was constant from that time, and in less than three months I had gained 26 pounds in flesh, became entirely free from pain and I believe I owe my life and present condition wholly to Warner's safe cure, the remedy which I used, Since my recovery I have thoroughly re-investigated the subject of kidney difficulties and Bright's disease, and the truths developed are astounding. I therefore state, deliberately, and as a physician, that I believe more than one-half the deaths which occur mn America are caused by Bright's disease of the kidnegs, This may sound like u rash statement, but 1 am prepared to verify it fully, Bright's disease has no distinctive features of its own, (in- deed, it often develops without sny pain whatever in the kidneys or their vicinity), but has the of Hunde every other common t 5 People die daily, whose Sartifcate a & DR igen WITIDIS physician's occurring from “Heart somplaints, when in Bright's disease of the hysicins, and fewer people, realize ht.
