Bellefonte, Oct 15.—~The Presbyterian Synod of Pennsylvania and West Vir ginia began its annoal session in the Presbyterian church of this place to-day, This synod is one of the most prominent and largest of the Presbyterian Church in America and is composed of a certain number of representatives or commis sioners elected by the various Presbytes riea of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Western Afrioa, Liberia, Zacatecas and Mexico. There will be in attendaoce, when all the delegates arrive, about 240 members, which will constitute a very full synod. The larger portion of them are arrived to-day. All the members of the synod are being entertained by the citizens of the place, The opening ser mon of the session of the syn was yreached this evening by the Moderator, br. 8, C. GROWTH OF HAIR ON A DEAD BODY. Two years ago Wm. A. Walters was buried in the Stone Chapel Cemetery, in Woodeock Valley, Huntingdon county. The other day the body was exhumed, to be taken by friends of the deceased to Williamsport for re-interment. When the coffin was reached by diggers they discovered that it had sprung at the joints, and out of the crevices the hair of the skull protruded in all directions. On opening the casket the hair on the head was found to measure eighteen in- ches, the whiskers eight inches and the growth on the breast six inches, not withstanding the body had been cleanly shaved when prepared for burial. A similar instance occurred in 1882 at the Cassville cemetery, 15 miles from the above place.
