has proven an active business. man, and
sold goods at so low a figure that other
merchants wondered how he could do it
and bold out. If be comes out all night
now, and satisfies his creditors, as | @
thinks he will, no one will have cause to
complain, and the public will be the
richer for having had cheap go yds, altho’

pains to serve them thus,

has it tended to bring out and develop a
wonderful amountjof musical talent that
bad been lying dormant for years, but
that it has been the means of elevating
the standard of mosie in Shamokin must
bo apparent to every one atrending its
weekly meetings, which are very profita
ble, interesting and entertaining. Much

untiring efforts of Prof. W, T. Meyer,
who gives his valuable services gratuine
ously. Recognizing this act and anxious

OBITUARY
Died, abont four miles west of Orangeville, 11,
of consumption, May 1, 1884, Mr, Jobs Jordan, He
em 1 to Blephenson county, Ill, wih his
family January 2, 79, and moved 15 near the
iaoe where he died. He was married twice ; the
ret time to Catherine Kephart, in 1851; one child
was born to them, and about a year after they
wore married hie first wife died. In 1854 he mar
ried Amanda Price, and thelr union was blessed
with seven children-5 boys and 2 girls, all of
whom survive him with their mother to mom
his loss. Deceased was born in Poller township
Centre county, Pa, February 12, 1827, and lived
there pear his birth place until he moged to Til
pols, He was confirmed {n the German Reformed
ehureh in his youth and lived a Christian life 1
his end, Just before he died he shouted, “Glo
to God who igus in theiheavens "Fane -
