nell-The Victorious
False Prophet,
Camo, Dec. 13.—~The news of the success
of Ei Mahdi is spreading rapldly throughout
Arabia and the whole country Is in a fever
of excitement over the possible coming of the
new Prophet. Bodies of rebels in favor of
the causo have appeared in many places and
the Turkish officials exprebs the greatest
alarm at the result of the fanaticism which
is carrying the Arabs en masse to the sup
port of the Mahdi. Overt acts are being
omitted Ly the wandering ¢ Arabs in all
ilrections. Roads are cut and already a
state of anarchy prevails. The Turkish gov-
srnor general has telegraphed to Constanti-
nople for assistance, his présent forces being
entirely inadequate to preserve order. It is
reported that the road between Jeddah and
Meocea has been cut and is in possession of a
strong force of rebels who profess to believe
that the Falsq Prophet will come directly to
mecca as soon'as he has subdued Buakim. At
Mecca the greatest alarm prevails The
shereaf is powerless to stem the heretical tide
which is sweeping over the country and has
appealed shrough the Vall of the Hud jaz to
the sultan for protection. Reports reach
Aden daily of tremendous religious excite
ment among the Arabs, and it is believed
there that should tho Mahdi succeed in
crossing the Rod sea a very large force of
Turkish troops would be necessary to pre-
vent his triumphal entraneo into the Holy
City.

and Guy, of the prisoner's counsel, and many
over the missing jurors, feeling assured tha
a timely presentation of the extanuating cir-
cumstances, which the explanations of the
several jurymen are certain to disclose to the
proper asuthoritios, will save O'Donnell’s life.
