People bave been able to protect themselves since good warm clothing has been so cheap at the Philad. Branch, For almost a trifle any one can buy an overcoat or a warm suit of Lewins. bi asian li Ao A CARD TO THE PUBLIC, Lyon & Co. have determined to cons< tinue their store in Bellefonte and have already received a great many new goods. They propose keeping a I stock than ever before, They have always kept the best variety and most complete lines of all kinds of goods kept in a first class store. They will continue the one price system which they adopted some time ago, and marked all goods in plain res and at the lowest prices, and hope to re- tain the patronage of the public, which has been so liber ed on them Lyon, who is at ally heretofore, Mr. Gog, present located in Philadelphis, has de- vated the last four weeks in the on and purchase of goods and is sen them forward as rapidly as possible, Look out for the advertisement in next issue of the Revorren, z SPRING MILLS, Mre. Dan’ Bottiger says he will be next on the list to go to Michigan—we are sorry to loose him, as he was a good saddler but it gives a good opening to another, Madam rumor says we are to have a new firm in the mercantile business, this spring. J. D. Long retiring, his son Charley acd Wm. Pealer, of Penn Hall, will take the old stand. Mr, Jacob M’Cool, of near this place, is busy shipping walnut logs. He pays $15 per thousand stumpage and cuts and hauls them himself. Mr. M'Cool will quit farming and move into his new house, near this place, when finished. “The Methodists of this place have closed their revival ; a number of seekers were foreward and some are rejoicing in a hope in heaven. Mr. Curvin, of Indi- ana, who is visiting his sister, Mrs. Bar- ree, while speaking to the seekers one evening last week, had an attack of heart disease which he is subject to; he was carried out and Dr. Vanvalzah called, and is now better, A. 8B. Woods has commenced hauling stone for the new house he intends building on the lot east of Bartges. Peter Philips is do. ing a good business at his plaining mill James Kinnely is offering bargainsat his furniture store ; if he only would adver. tise and tell the people what nice furni- ture he has he would make more sales Wm. Rarick is busy in his grain house, G. A. Rank has started his sawmill with Dan’l Kinnely as foreman and B. Evans as assistant ; they are making the logs get into boards, rails and plank in a hur- ry. C.D. Q. - - A ABOUT ROAD TAX. The supreme court of Pennsylvania has rendered several decisions of general interest in the matter of road tax. The right of farmers to work out their road tax has been generally conceded, but supervisors in a few townships insist that the tax must be paid in money. A test case has been decided in favor of the taxpayers, and their right to work out the tax distinctly and finally affirmed In other cases collectors of road tax have claimed a commission on the part work- ed out, as well as that paid into the township treasury, The supreme court decided that all claims for such commis- sion should be rejecled, the working out of a tax imposing no labor on the collector or treasurer, but on the super- visor, who is paid for his services. emi a sone —The engineers are still on the route locating the Bellefonte and Buffalo Run railroad, ( Vanderbilt.) The objective point is to reach Scotia mines back of State Coilege and take from the Penn'a road some of the ore hauling. This line would connect with Vanderbilt's road at Millhall. Jellefonte is asked to subscribe $10,000 for right-of-way damages on this route in consideration of getting the road. This amount has not yet been raised. Parties there refuse to subscribe on the ground that as the road is intended for profit to those owning it, Bellefonte should not be asked to pay this sum. On the other hand it is said that the road will benefit Bellefonte, by causing the erection of iron works and other industrial estab- lishments at that place. If this Buffalo Run road is built by the Vanderbilt party it will compel the Penn's R. RB. Company to complet: the road from Spring Mills so as to have as direct an outlet for ore as the Van- derbilt road would have, sss oo ~~]. P. Leitgel, formerly of Bpring Mills and Centre Hall, is Co. Bup't of Crawford county, Kansas. He writes us March 8: Times are good in this connty and spring is fast approaching. Wheat wiil not be 8 good stand this year as we had too mach hard freezing during Jan- uary. Farmers are busy farming and will sow oats in a few days. It is claimed that our peach crop is killed.
