Mo.yer and Eddinger, two men charged
with the recent double murder in Knyder
county, have been committed for court.
Thomas Jordan, arrested for the same
crime, has been released.
AN EPISODE OF ARIZONA
The Rochester Union.
An interesting story comes from Arizo
na. Kellogg and Carter owned a mining
claim, and foolishly quarrelled about it.
Kellogg was a man of few word, "light
and free was his touch upon his revolver."
With little ado he fired at his partner, and
supposed that be had sent a bullet into bis
breast,- but behold, Carter was a good
young man, and had a Bible in the pocket
of bis gray working shirt. The ball struck
upon the sacred book, its course was turn
ed, and Carter was unhurt. Then the
good young roan whipped out his gleam
ingbowie knife, sprang upon Kellogg, and
carved him so artistically that his hold on
his revolver relaxed, and be vyas like to
die. The good young styunpbed his
oppo.nent'§ wound andr ode away for a
physician, returning within twenty-four
hours, having made a total distanoe of
over ninety miles. Kellogg is recovering.
Carter, to avoid arrest, sought to cross the
river, an4this time the Bible didn't save
him. He was drowned. The moral of
this is very intricate, but It is plain that
Carter wasn't born to be hanged.

A letter from Cass town, Miami county,
Ohio, to tho Reporter, says: Apploa re

wheat 1 20 to 1 25 ; corn 40 ; hogs plenty
and range from 3i to 4c; beef cattle run
from 3to 4c. Rev. Lewis Shaffer, for
merly from your town is living in our
county ; his health has been quite poorly
for some time; old father Levi Lucken
bach and wife are doing well, and have
good health. Daniel Driver, formerly of
Centre Hill, his lady is quite feeble.
Their daughter Sarah got married at last
in ber old days to a widower named Ste
phen Boyer. Some twigs which I took
from my father's prune tree, when on a
visit to my home near Centre Hill, last
July a year ago, and which 1 budded on
some of my plum trees. I measured one
this morninz, string measure, and it mess-
I ures just 231 feet. B-
KEBERSBURG VICINITY
Quite an excitement is under way in our
{own on account of a letter written by a
fellow tbal calls himself John F. Wilson,
from Sidney, Neb., to James Mallory in
regard of the deatii of Wm. Mullory. j
John F. W. claims that Wro. Mallory
came to his hotel, took sick and died, Ac.
He states that he examined bis trunk and
in it be found papers with bis lather's
name on and now be promises to for
ward the trunk providing they will remit
$28. 10 to defray expenses. To say the
least no money was sent as yet and it it
pretty generally believed that the scheme
is a fraud. First, because James Mallory
never wrote to him. Second, Am. M.
it tn Sanie Fe, N. M. and not in the Black
Uillt as John F. W. states. Third, there
were letters received at least at three other
places reading just like this one mention
ed. We tru-t that John F. Wilson will
be passed along throughout the different
newspapers.

Just now the measles arc making their
rounds. Nearly every youngster has to
entertain tbem by turn. A few more fam
ilies then all had them in our vicinity.
On last Sabbath there were no less thn%
HOO souls present to witness tbe dedication
of the Reformed church. There was
preaching in both Lutheran and.Reform
ed homes and could then scarcely all be
seated.
Some of our "little big boys'' wore sum
moned before the Justice of the Peace the
other day for misconduct during devotion
al exercises in the Ev. church, a few more
might and should be called to account for
misbehavior while tbe Minister i>

name John. ¥. Wilson, bas sent a letter,
like the one below to Mr. Mallory, of
Rebertburg, to a great number of persons
all over the country expecting them to bile,

ing anything of his relatives. It examined
his trunk and found it to conts in a very
tine gold watch and chain, two silver
mounted revolvers, a gold ring and many
