made repeated efforts to gel the missing
returns before the board, They asked
that the supervisors bo ordered to produce
the returns, but Gov. Wells said he had
nothing to do with the supervisors. Then

turns are missing the certified copies be
accepted, as provided by the law ; but
G--v. Wells replied that it wa* not worth
while to talk about that, as tho copies
would not be receivod. Finally it was
agreed that if the supervisor* did not turn
up within a few day-, the board would
probably see about it. The missing re
turns, which are withheld by the super
visors, givo about three thousand Demo
cratic majority, which accounts for Wells'
unwillingness to have tbcin found.
