Thomas vs. Adam Hoy, Roland Curlin, Adolph Loeb and Sands. The tri al lasted several days, and resulted by a verdict for plaintilf for StSM). The sum claimed, as we were informed, was $30,0C0 arising out of the bankruptcy of J. C. Tho mas. This case involved an important point in law and the result was awaited with much interest. Mr. Thomas, who lives at Bellcfonte, sonic two years ago, turned over his property, worth a large amount, to the above defendants, to whom he was indebted, and the next day made an assignment preliminary to his adjudi cation in bankruptcy. Tbe action was brought by the assignee ia behalf of other creditors to obtain tha possession of this property with a view to having an equita ble distribution made of the entire estate. Tbe ease of Adam Hoy, et a!., assignees of Reuben Keller, bankrupt vs. John H. and David VV. Keller, administrators, *c., and John P. Rankle and John Stoner; an action to recover the value of the Centre Hill store sold te defendants by tbe bank rupt, was put on trial, when a verdict was taken by consent, for $5,300 for plaintiff. ——Having tried the lime from tbe kiln of Mr. Uvrge Koch, near this place, we find it of first quality. Mr. Koch can be found at the klip constantly duriag the dy, Sundays excepted. —The Leek Haven Republican denies the statement made in the Reporter, two weeks ago, that the liquor sellers of that city were doing a brisk business now in whiskey and bottles with fellows from the rural districts visiting their city. We are glad if such is not the csue and the Repub lican ought to know. Nevertheless, what we stated is common rumor. .—The Tyrone Herald says : "A lady reports six dogs without muezlea in the east end ofTyroi* Borough."' Now the Reporter would like to know whether that is half as bad as one woman's tongue with out a muzxle ? We learn that the summer school im Earlystown is doing admirably under the kind supervision of Mr. £. B. Hoeterman. Ditto, the school at Centra Hall under Mr. J. P. Leitzell. Last winter's rigorous cold has de stroyed the greater portion of the peach trees in this section. Rev. P. $. Fisher, formerly pastor of the Boalsburg Reformed charge, died at his home in Northampton county, on Friday last. Rev! Fisher was well known and highly esteemed throughout this val ey, from which he removed some 20years ago, Any original sarcasms in the Two ten Republican, might appropriately be arranged under the heading of "Hay sting*." A couple came to Centre Hall last Sunday to be made one, but, unfortunate ly, neither minister nor justice was about to attend to the little matter, and they left again as two. No doubt era this they found their Moses to lead them out of sin gleness into tbe realms of connubial blias. We hope so. —We hear much complaint freiu far mers of different sections, that tha cora planted fails to come up. It is attributed to the seed having been damaged by freez ing on the cab during the winter. Wm. Stump, an old citizen ef this section left for Virginia, last Wednesday, travelling per wagon. The weather this week was hot, and summer has all of a sudden set in. Nillheint Items. Millheim is having a musicial in strument store ; also prospect for a naw drug-store and a clothing store. That sounds like business. A correspondent sends us the following items for publication: Fire is rsging in the mountains south of Millheim, and is destroying immense quantities of timber. Daiiiel Musser, of Millheim, has solda valuable tract of timberland, situated in Poe Valley for the handsome sum of $40,000. Mr. W. Harris, Ev, pastor of the Centre Circuit, has resigned his charge to avoid expulsion. The charges prefered against him are of a serious nature, and do not re flect much credit upon his ministerial dig nity. Corn planting is about ever in this sec tion. Millheimer* are talkingof raising a band —plenty of wind here. An effort is being made to raise a base ball club in town, but from the bawling already indulged in, it may be put down as a failure. Local option is working beautiful in tbe hurg, only about a dozen drunk men per weelc. Hard cider does it. The side-walks in Millbeim, are in such a condition as to make them dangerous to pedestrians after night. People who have business in town after dark invariably take tbe street rather than risk their limbs on old dilapidated walks. E. S. G. DOUBLE MURDER ANDTHEMUB DEBER MUBDEBED. Virginia City, Nev. SriilUO THAT M xat LeJ^gKT.— ln our County Court Inst week, the Pennsyl vania Railroad Co, brought a criminal prosecution against Olivar Malaby in tba name of the Commonwealth, for lnrceay in stealing three railroad tickets, two from Wistar station to Concord, and ope from Wistar to Lovell station, oa the P. and K. road. When tba caae was called it being ascertained that the pritaaer had ae coun sel, A. F. Ryoa was daaignatad by tba court to defend him. The au thorities refused to surrender the prisoners, and transferred them to a fortress in the harbor to save thetu from the wrath of the militia. It is probable that a number of aell-known Carlist sympathisers in Barcelona will be arrested and held as hostages for the safe return of the veluuteers now in the hands of the insurrection it ta. A levy en wuute upon the popula tion for forces to operate agatust the insurgeuts is expected to be ready shortly. Geu. Velarde has issued a procla mation calling all males between 14 and 16 years of age in the Republi can columns, and threatening the in fliction of heavy penalties upon all municipalities which shall thwart its operation.
