—\Ve had several inches of snow —
sleet rather—on Sunday morning.
—One day last week some 14 sleds
srossed the Seven mountains, loaded
with hardware for Mr. M'Manigal's
now store at Millheim.
—The railroad from Tyrone to
Peon'a Furnace, will be ready for the
rails by Ist of April,
—ln last week's Reporter we men
tioned an improvement made upon
reapers, driving the knife by a cog
cam wheel, an invention of D. F. Luse.
Mr. Luse has since shown us a model
of another important improvement, by
which the reel upon the reaper is dis
pensed with, and a rake, of only one
fourth the weight made to perform tha
same office. This invention of Mr.
Luse, we have no doubt, will entirely
supercede the reel, it takes off consid
erable weight and jar, and will rake
in the grain much better than the
reel.
—J. A. Lukens, of Philipsburg,
who was found guilty of murder in
the second degree at Bellefonte, last
August, for the killing of Richard
Atherton, was granted a new trial
last week. ,
—The store room owned by Messrs.
Swires Holter, of Howard borough
was, we learn, totally destroyed by
fire on Friday morniug, Jan. 24th.
The room was occupied by the Messrs.
McCloekv Bro's. dealers in general
merchandise—their loss after deduct
ing insurance will be about slooo. —

—A valuable horse belonging to J.
I). Shugert, slipped on the ice one
day last week, breaking a hind leg, in
Oonsewueuce of which the animal had
to be shot. That was dear sleighing
for our friend Lop.
—Col. W. W. Brown announces in
his Republican that he has joined the
church and the temperance society.
Amen. May he stick.
—The concert at Aaronsburg, on
Lot Friday evening, was a success—
the music fine and audience large.
—Read advertisement of Wm. J.
M'Manigal's new hardware store at
Millheim. Goods will be sold as
cheap as at Miiroy, and the public
will find Mr, M'Manigal a gentleman
all through, and deserving their confi*
deuce.
Question Will the Susquehanna
"move" this spring ? The people along
there are looking for a big "flitting "
—Boalsburg was canvassed the olh
day, and found three majority for lo
cal option.
—.ftev. Miller has a protracted
nieetfng going on at the Union church,
which commenced Saturday Btb.
The meeting seems to have proven a
successful one, as a large number ol
conversions have resulted.
—Wm. and Henry B Mussina, of
Mt. Carmel, Pa, sons of H. B. Mus
sina, dee'd, of Aaronsburg, have pur
chased the store and grist mill of Mr.
f.udy, at Cowan, pqiou county, and
will take possession, April Ist. The
young Mussinas are evidently pros
pering, and heartily glad are we to see
it, as we know their old neighbors at
AaroDsburg feel the same way.
—Monday and Tuesday pleasant
weather. Wednesday rain.
In Reading, on 13th, local option
was defeated by about 900 majority.
Cameron county has given 231
majority against and Elk coanty 500
in favor of license.

ter the first day ol January, one thousand
eight hundred and seventy-throe shall

first day of April, one thousand eight hun
dred and seventy-three, if the district for

against the granting or license; and the
treasurer of the proper county shall then
refund,, to tho holder of such license, the
moneys so paid thereior, for which the said
treasurer shall be entitled to credit in his
accounts with tho Commonwealth.
Sac. 2. That in receiving and counting,
and in making returns or the votes cast,
the inspectors and judges, and

election laws are hereby extended to, and
shall apply to the voters, inspectors,
