—We made pretty correct calcula
tions, before the election, as to the re
sult in the fire townships on this side,
Potter, Miles, Gregg, Peno, and
Haines, which, we said would gire
1000 majority. The result shows
that we came within a dosen of the of
ficial result. As to the democratic
majority in the county, we put our fig
ures at 500, and the result did not va
ry greatly from that. We however,
missed it in our calculations npou the :
state, we underestimated the capacity j
of the radicals for fraud as well as of j
their corruption fund.

Not Constitutional to Choke a Vice
President.
As one of the humors of the cam
paign, we relate an incident as fur
nished by a reader of the Reporter and
which occured at Lock Haveu.
The darkey porter of one of the ho
tels of that city was put in (raining by
some of the white rads, who prepared
n speech for C'ufly to be delivered at a
meeting of his scented bretheren. The
darkey meeting came off, and while
the sable hotel porter was delivering his
harange, the darks became enthused,
and one of the Vice Presidents kept
jumping up, occasionly to put in a
word, and was always pulled back in
to bis scat by the president, but as he
would not kceo down, the president
administered a slight choking to the
restless vice. This was strong argu
ment, for the latter, he took up his
hat aud said he was for Greeley now,
and left (he stand, aud weut to some
saloou where he related the circum
stance, and gaye it as his opinion, that
"it way not constitutional for a Presi
dent to choke a Vice President."
Funny, but sound constitutional logic
nevertheless,
BOYD HENDERSON IN TROUBLE.

nabbed, as the following intelligence
shows: y
HAVANA, October 16.—Boyd Hender
son, of Pennsylvania, U. 8., who caine to
Havana Octobor 11, accompanied by hit
wife, was arrested last evening in the ho
tel Telegrlt by tho chief of police and ta
ken to the police headquarters, where ht
is still confined, but is permitted to see hi l
wife and friends.
The cause of his arrest is unknown, but
it is said that he has been under suspicion
ever since he arrived, and lias been seen ir
communication with suspected sympathi
zers with the Cuban iusurgents. It is fur
ther reported that he is a Cuban by birth
He claims to be a native of the Unitcc
Suites, travoliug here solely for the benefi
..t his own and bis wife's health.
Henderson has since been released.

Terminer is of doubtful authority. So
the jurors were all discharged ou

over until the regular November

argument of the motion for a new trial
in the oa-.c of the commonwealth vs.
J. A. Lukcus convicted of murdor in
the Setx>nd degree at the last term,
was postponed until Nov. 9th next
bevause of the ahseuce of Hon. Wal
lace ne of the Commonwealths coun
sel in the trial of the ,*a*.

—A ratu, belonging to Mr. Young,
made an attack upon the wife of Mr.
J. 0. Wagner, of tne Loop, on liutur
day last. The animal knocked her
down, and by his butting caused a
dislocation of Mr?. Wagner's shoul
der. She has been confined t bed,
frtim the injuries received.

| Editor Reporter—Dear Sir : Before leav
ing Centre Hall for our trip up Salt river,
1 promised my friends, that in case we ar
rived at our destination, I would write a
letter to yonr paper giving a description of
our trip, and things in general as they oc
cWml along the route; and a* we were
highly favored with good weather, our
trip >*as not only a plea-ant one but wa<
made in an almost incredibly short time .
This, however, wa* due to the tact that Wv
bad taken passage on those splendid Gree
ley steamers which are so noted for fast
'time. The one occuoied by the Centre
Hall crowd, was named The Liberal. We
left the Hall on the morning of tho 14th
and Joyfully wended our way toward*
Bellefonte, srriTing there early in the fore
noon of the same day. trip, to far,
had been one of uninterrupted joy, until
we got into town and were going down
Spring street, when Bill Brown of the Re
publican, who wa* still drunk from the
niocuon ml-mking our rig for the one used
iu hauling away the defunct carcass of
the Centre county Radical party, jumped '
in and took a seat right aside of Jack
Spangler. Now Jack .is not to say, hlpss- !
ed with an angel like spirit, and not being
used to such company, kicked up a fus* |
and went for Rill lively, and succeeded in
ousting him. The last seen of Brown he
was going around a corner at a two forty
rate, vigorously scratching that portion of
his permit that people usually sit on.
, From this on till we reached the State of
j Indiana, we were moie or less harassed by
I -Reeking radicals, who would peer out
j from some thicket and yell Hartranft at
i us. After this we moved on without inter
j ruption and arrived at our haven of rest in
j excellent spirits, but minus the six barrel*
of sof. water taken along tor lubricating
I purposes. Things look kinder natural,
snd we all like it first rate; think we will
j stay about three years if nit sooner dis
charged.
