We consider lt Important to shorten

when transplanting. It lessens, by
reducing the number of buds, the de

„ however, room for study in the
practice of heading-in, because•of the
;vigor, of growth and power of produ

greater in some sorts than others.
The peacb, for instanoe, may be cut
- back to within two feet of the crown,
leaving not a limb or twig, and yet
, the tree in the ensuing fall will be
found, under good cultivation, to have
made four or five strong shoots, each
as many feet long, and with abundant
lateral branches. Pursue the same
course with the apple, and nine times
out of ten the result will be only a few
Treble shoots of six inches, with a
dead tree - the following spring. The
pear, whin worked en the quince,
will bear much more severe pruning
hack than when on the peat stock
and further, some varieties will en
dure more severe pruning than other .
The grape, when cut back to two or
three buds, grows vigorously ; but if
-left unpruned, it struggles-a year - or

the many varieties that an observing

Wash In this two and a half pounds of

two; then wash It well in puie water.
The butter Is then left without any
odor, and 11118 the sweetness of fresh

have nothing Injurious in them.
We copy the above from one of our
exchanges, the editor of which Lays :
"We forthwith obtained some of the

enough for any stomach that had more
sensibility than a Wagon wheel. We
doctored It as per recipe, and when
