We can give the main particulars of the letter s without violating confidence or giving disagreeable prominence to the chief aiarg in tile strange incident or hig friebdi. Mr. Deka W. is a wealthy and Influen tial man. 'residing near the village of P. On the Thursday preceding the pride fight between Gallagher and Davis, the old gentleman was thrown into a high state of excitement at learning that his only son John bad gone to Cleveland with the avowed- purpose of attending the tight, and the excitement was inten sified at still further discovering that John had helped bluaseli to his_ the fach erfs) pocket-took, containing =O. Mr. W. fumed and fretted over the conduct of his son, and went to bed on Thursday night with a raging headache and marked symptoms of fever. lie was about the place in a more composed state 01 mind on Friday, but the interview with John, - on Monday afternoon, lin inediatcly after the sou's return, threw the old gentleman into u paroxysm of rage and grief, which was rendered severaby John's insolence, and his'acknovriedgment that be had 105t4150 of the money fn s bet on Gallagher. Mr. frentied feelings finally got the better of him, and be felled his son to tire floor with a blow of his fiat, and immediately thereafter fell down him self, in a senseless condition. Great excitement in the family ensued. The mother lan screaming for assistance, a inch was soon forthcoming in the per sons of several of the neighbors. Mr. Vi . was found in an apparently lifeless condition, with blood flowing from his mouth and nose. A subsequent exami nation by_ a physican led to the an nouncement, by him, that Mr. W. hod died)nisi the bursting of a blood vessel. t"oevdently had the vital spark fled that no efforts at resuscitation were nitrite; and the remains were prepared for burial as promptly as possible. The funeral of the '..deceased" took place the following Wednesday. Mr. W. a Maly had billy been codified the previous day—Up to which tithe it had lain drap ed 'in its shroud, lu the parlor. Not withstanding the wonderful life look of the skin, and ,the color In the face, it occurred to no one to suggest a postpone ment of the burial till death was abso lutely certain. The funeral was very largely attended, and everybody remark ed the lifelike appearance of the deceased. The "remains" were temporarily placed in one of the vaults of the cemetery, ow ing to the fact that u brick tomb, corn ntenoled for their reception, had not been completed. At ten o'clock on Thursday night, the village was thrown into great excitement by the report that a ghost had been seen In the cemetery a short time hero - re, and that the old lady who had first seen it hail been frightened Into a fit, from which it was doubtful whether she would recover. Thinking that probably the ghost was personated by some scoun drel, who had played the same trick several times before, a nemberof persons armed themselves with shot-guns, pro ceeded to the cemetery, and commenced a cautious inspection—their hearts keep ing up an anxious thumping in their 1,0144,1115, in spite of their assumed brav ado. They had not long to wait, for here, Hitting among the tombs, was a white object, plainly to be been. With trembling hands the guns were raised, and tired, when—strange fact for a ghost itley saw the white creature fall be tAN et:11 a couple of graves. Plucking up courage, they cautiously approached the object, and turned a dark lantern upon it. Their feelings can be better imagin ed than described, when they found that the ghost was the lately "deceased" Mr. 3 /dos ! Whilst a portion of the par ty pa kid up the bleeding and senseless body of the old gentleman, and' started homeward with lt, the remainder hasten ed to the vault. There they found Mr. W.', collin broken open and lying upon the coffin of a deceased , laity that had been placed upon It, like woe throv, n Juvai from the shelf, and lin end, partially broken open, di-pisy mg its ghastly inmate. The vault door, width bas a rather weak all,dr, had been tarred open bythe resur rected W. Tile party then went to Mr. \V.'s house, pure they tound that his wounds were not serious, and that he had recovered lug •-cnses. Fits story was briefly told: H e had been carried to the cemetery in a lance. Early on Thursday evening con-cioustfees returned to him, and the' horrid truth flashed upon his mind that he tins codified alive. This lent addition al , tiength to his struggles to get free, and he finally succeeded in buistang the cult u.--Ctecciund Plaindcalcr. TM.
