SELF-RAKER.
THE undersigned are agents for thiel cele
brated Combined Self.raking Reaper and
Mower. This machine has two driving wheels,
hinge-joint and folding-bar, is very simple in
construction, and is considered by those who
have used them to be eqnal in grass to any
light machine made for mowing only. It cuts
4 test 8 inchei-in grass, and 5 feet 6 inchwin
grain, is a rear-cut side-delivery, capable of
cutting a whole field of grain without binding
a sheaf, and does the must satisfactory work
in lodged grain, to be worked with two
horses. We claim this Self-raker to be the
beat in existence. Farmers reading over the
different advertisements will come to the
conclusion that all are best, but we will give
them our reasons for calling oars the beet:
Ist. This Self-raker has four rakes (no
blanks or fans). The driver, by means, of a
small lever in front of him, can make either
rake sweep the platform at his will. You will
see by this that it makes no difference how
far you have to drive, you can always have a
full sheaf, 'thereby saving binding, gathering
or dividinrsheaves. ,
2nd. If your grain is one thickness eu that
It will permit of making a sheaf each revolu
tion of the Rake or you Wish to put the dtiver
on the horses, you can din so by simply thaw
kg one bor, and still keep the rakes all on-to
drop into the lodged or tangled grain. is
one ?Mitt to which we wish to 'draw your
attention. Take notice where all these rakes
s , rike into the grain and then compne theta
with blanks or reels on other Self-rakers.
3d. If you wish your oats on a swath, tie
your lever fast, and it a ill do its wtirk per
feztly and you will he safe for wet weather.
4th. All men know that in a band-raking
Reaper that the reel must be changed for dif
ferent kinds of grain to make it reel on plat
form, and so must a Self-raker to make pertect
work in extreme tall or shott grain. This
Rake has tbis most desirable and indispensa
ble improvement, which co other rake
This is done by changing two set screws in
rake-re.d which works on a pirit. With a
combination of these four desirable points, it
has been unanimously acknowledged by nil
disinterested and practical machinists to be
decidealy simple and durable in its cinistrac
titn
At the great National Field Trial, held,at
Auburn, New York, lust July, which is coil
ceded to have been the largest and severest
trial ever held in the United States, lasting
several weeks, under the entire management
of the New York Suite Agricultural Society,
this machine was awarded' ,he Gold Medal
for the best Combined Self-raking Reaper
and Mower, (Class No. 4). Since the _great
trial, different matbines are claiming Medals,
and most persons are in n fog about it. We
will explain : There were about 5U different
machines entered for the different Medals,
and they nere cla.seJ as follows: The best
machine in each class was awarded a Medal,
and the second beat a prize of $25.
