Coal operators from the districts con
cerned lift yesterday in Superintendent f
Motive Power Casauave's olli-e to discuss
the matter. The operators in objecting lo
the reduction, staled that it would entail a

this, in ail probability, would precipitate a
strike, which both the company and tin
operators are desirous to avoid. The ulti
mate decision in the mailer will be held in
abeyance until advice is received from
Philadelphia.

as a helti.-r in the tin shop, had a
horrible experience Sat urday night in the
Gallitzin tunnel which resulted in the loss
of a leg.
Mc Hale left Alto ma Saturday evening
and Went to G.iiliiziii to attend a dance.
About 1 1 ::: o'clock he hoarded a freight
train, at the west end of the tunnel.
When the train was a! t halt way
through the tunnel, accordiuglo Mir II ale's
story, be attempted to cross through a
hopper-bottom car, but fell through th
gales 10 the track. The train was not,
running very rapidly, and he scrambled
from under the cat. but his right leg was
caught and crushed under the wheels,
after w hieh lie was t brown into the gutter
along tin track. The injured man lay in
Ihe gutter until the train passed, and then
laborously. began to crawl to the east end
of the tunnel.
With his injured leg dragging behind
him and the blood streaming from several
severe scalp -Aounds Mcllale painfully
crept to the end tt' the tunnel, a quarter of
a mile from the spot w here he was injured.
1 1 took him an hour and a half lo make
the journey, and he was nearly uncon
scious w hen he dually reached r.he open
air and climbed out of danger on the bank.
He was found here about one o'clock in
he morning by the engineer of a passing
"snapper."
The injured man was placed on a snap
per and taken to Aitoona. A t I he hospital
whereliewastaken.it was found neces
sary to amputate the lea below the knee.
It was found that he haJ sustained a pain
ful contusion of the back beside several
scalp wounds. After the amputation he
was admitted for treatment.
The injured man i the son of Austin
Mcllale and is years of age.
William Keck, aiie.1 11 years, residing
in Kichlaad, K.-ade township, fell on Sat
urday and broke the bones in his right
forearm. The fracture was leduced at the
Aitoona hospital.
