Mr. James Snyder, a native of Carroll township, this county , who has lieen a res ident of Altoona for a numU-r of years, and up until a couple of yeais ago was en gaged with his hrother, lieorjfe Snyder, iu conducting the Arlington Hotel, made a narrow escape from death on Saturday af ternoon. Mr. Snyder has the contract for the mason work on the new impounding reservoir at K manning I'oint and has been giving it his personal supervision ever since the work was commenced. On Sat urday he was on one of ihe Pennsylvania Halroad Company's shifters at Kittanning Point, and in dismounting from it he stepping directly in front of an eastbound liecf train. Fortunalely it was running slow at the time, otherwise Mr. Snyder would most probably have boen killed. The engine struck him and he was hurl ed from ihe track.
