A law enacted at the recent session of

ough councils the power to app lint a high
constable, and makes this an elective of

son to serve as constable in each ward of
the borough, and also one person to serve

An interesting and exciting game of
base ball w as play eil on the grounds in this

Humphreys, of Cambria township, while
hauling in grain at his home near Irwin.

his team that death ensued the next day.
He had loaded the wagon with sheaves
and his son was on the wagon building the
load. When the wagon started
part of the load fell off in front, throw ing
the boy and part of the load on the horses,
with the lov between the horses on the
wagon tongue. Mr. Humphreys, in endeav
oring to stop the team, was tiainple.i and
pushed through a wire fence. His l. fi leg
was broken iu two places. Th?. boy es
caped unhurt. Mr. Humphreys was about
forty years of age and is suixived by his
wife, who is a daughter of the lale Owen
Rom-rts, of Siiininerhill township, this

dore Craw ford, of this city, while yi ling
relatives in Monster township, Cai bria
county, yesterday, had a desperat. en
counter with a large and ferocious wild
cat. The boy is compelled to whik a
crutch, because of rheumatism, and weut
to the woods to cut a cane. While thus
engaged the w ild cat jumped at his breast.
The hoy threw the cat off. Again the ani
mal came at him. this time alighting 'ipoo
his back, but again the boy was successful iu
throwing it oh and against a tree, break
ing one of its legs, thus winning a victory,
for the cat slunk away iu one direction.
