Sheep dogs appear to be numerous in
Summerhiil and Cambria townships, and
no person can allow his sheep to remain in
the fields at night and expect to find them

One man has built a fold of boards ten feet
high without a roof ana others that wish
to keep sheep w ill be tompelled to do like

Sscretary Edge, of the Pennsylvania
department of agricultuie, has issued the
following statement regarding crops:
Winter wheat has come through the
winter short in leaf and stock, but with
plenty of roots to insure a good crop with
favorable weather; the east sides of the
fences running north and south, especially
in the southeastern part of the state, show
the bad effects of the heavy drifts which
accumulated there, during the bli.zard,
and in many cases the grain has beeu
smothered out entirely, giving a portion of
the fields a spotted appearance. In low,
wet places aud ou fields having a bad nat
ural drainage, the melting snow by running
into the low places and freezing there, has
killed w heat aud made a cut in the vielc of
the crop. The acreage is slightly decreas
ed, due to the low price of the grain. The
indications are that more than the average
acreage of potatoes will be planted, and
some of our prophets are aiready predicting
low prices for this crop.

Indiana, Pa.. May 4. At 11 o'clock this
morning the court in the Blair-White
judgeship coutest met in open session, and
delivered an opinion in favor of the latter.
They find a majority of V:h legal votes for
Judge Wlitte, aud have certified his elec
tion to the governor. The costs are to lie
paid by the county. Five hundred aud
seventy-one illegal votes were thrown out.
of which 3uii were cast for Blair and ST5
White, making the latter's majority
The contest was instituted by Mr. Blair,
candidate of the Democratic and Inde
pendent Republicans, who alleged that
enough illegal votes had been cast foi
Judge White to more than offset his ma
jority on the face of the returns. Charges
of bribery also entered into the complaint.
A court consisting of the three tearest
judges of the court of common pleas, w as
appointed by the governor to take evi
dence in the case and render a decision.
This court sat here for weeks and heard
many witnesses for both sides. The testi
mony was very conflicting in the bribery
charge, but the fact that illegal votes had
been cast was established to the satisfac
tion of the court. The trial court consist
ed of Judges Uoty, Barker and Reyburn.
Judge White was present when the de
cision was rendered, Imt Judge Blair was
not, and did not hear the news until after
court had adjourned. As the j uilges were
ascending the st ps. a spectator started 1 1
applaud. Judges Duly and Rt-vbui'ii
w heeled around and shot fierce glances
over the house, and the attempt was not
repeated.
Judge Doty said-tliat he and his asso
ciates were well aw are of the inleiise in
teiHst iu the case all over the county, but
hoped that the result would be received
without any manifestation of feeling. He
a Ided that any attempt at applause would
be interpreted at contempt, and would be
punished accordingly. He said the opin
ion of the court, as it would be tiled in the
prolhouotary's office, was of such exlen
siveues.s that it would consume almost the
entire day in reading it. 1 1 w as. t hern fore.
the intention of the court l. stale briefly
the result, as found, which was given as
abrtve.
After the announcement of the result, an
order of court was read, in which the sher
iff was directed to burn the ballots iu the
presence of the county commissioners.
This was objected to by Mr. RutTner. and
the order wis modified to read "That the
ballots be burned within todays, unless an
appeal has beeu taken out before that
time."
