Mr. Frederick Irw in, real estate agent for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, arrived in Johnstown on Wednesday af ternoon and as fast as deeds can be made out will pay for the land over which the right of way for a branch railroad from the main line to the Johnson Company works was secured some time ago. Mr. Irwin brought w ith him the information that at a meeting in Philadelphia on Tues day of the board of directors of the Penn sylvania Company it was ollicially decided to build the proposed branch, and the appearance of Mr. Irwin there to pay for the land shows that the Company means business. Tht; branch means very much to Johnstown, and there is universal re joicing over the news. Resides the new railroad the deal includes a tine new depot for Johnstown. Active work may not be gin, however, until spring. Highway Robber Bafllefl. John Zeak, a prominent resident of the Mountain City, who is a moulder in the employ of the company and resides on Seventh avenue, accompanied by his brot her, drove to St. Augustine, Cambria county, one day last week, and wh ile on their way home, between the Huckhorn and Dripping Springs, they were stopped by three maskrd men, whose purpose evi dently, was highway robbery. Messrs. Zeak , however, were equal to the emer gency, and, putting whip to their horse, dashed by Uie outlaws, who, it is fair to presume, were greatly chagrintied at the way they had been outwitted. Altimim Times. A old M Inter. All old-time weather signs point' to an uncommonly severe winter. English sparrows are glow ing feathers on their legs, cornhtisks are thicker than usual, young lambs are grow ing wool that seems marvelous, squirrels art; unusually busy, 'coons and 'possums have a heavy grow th of fur coming on, insects have left the north side of t he trees in the woods, and beavers are laying in an extra supply of winter food a mouth earlier than usual. These are the signs w hich the couiitry prophets are practically unanimons in an nouncing as their prediction for the com ing winter. It won't cost the reader any thing to believe it.
