Lack of orders has caused a slight de crease in the output of coal at South Fork and alor.g the mountain district, caused principally by the rush made to the eastern market during the mouth of August. The Stineman Coal Company was not running full time last week, but hopes to rise to its usual average in a short time. Lukens A llaupt worked about two days during the week, as did also the Euclid. The Argyle, Amora. Diinlo and Conemaugh companies have also run below their average. The possibilities of what a mountain girl can do is the following claim made for one who lives upon the East Kentucky railroad, near Willard. From April L' to June 1. this year, she planted three acres of potatoes, did all the cooking and sew ii.g for the family, milked four cows, fed the calves, pigs and chickens, shot three pole cats and four chicken hawks, set the dogs on IS tramps, attended l.'t dam es and :t pic nics, read .1 dime novels, and sat up 4 nights in the vve k with her beau, and yet we often iiear the question asked: "What there for woman to do?" He is as sisted by a number of Pittsburg people prominently identified in rati road circles. One of the large parrying companies in which the Vanderbills are interested is a financial factor and will afford tide water and New York terminal. A great deal of careful and methodical work has been done in the way of permanent location. Connection will be made with the Kulfalo, Rochester & Pittsburg at Punxsutawney and with the Sbeuaugo and Lake Erie at Puller. The road will make an outlet from the Connellsvillo region to tin; seaboard, the lakes, Canada and the West. The seaboard route will be -M miles shorter than that of the Pennsylvania road. The Reading Titnc.x furnishes the follow ing bit of seasonable advice: As there are a great many public sales of personal property throughout the country at every season of the year, we call the at tention of auctioneers and venders to a few facts. In a sale by auction there are three parties, namely, the owner of the property to be sold, the auctioneer, and a portion of the iiublic. The articles must be sold without reserve, and unless the vender re serves one open bid he cannot bid himself or have the auctioneer or anyone else bid for him. There aie eases on record where a bid was not reserved, and the ven der had a bidder who bought il in. and af terwards suit was brought against, the vender by the highest outside bidder for the article, and it was decided that he, the plaintiff, was tin; highest bidder and en tit led to the article against the vender. So, also, if an article is struck off to a per son, and it is afterward ascertained that the vender or auctioneer practiced fraud by holding himself, or had puffers, it was held both by the courts of England, and so repeatedly decided by the supreme courts of Pennsylvania, that the purchaser as soon as he discovered the fraud practised upon him, must return or tender the arti cles to the vendor.
