struck her over the heat! with a club and
knocked lo r dow n and then attempted to
outrage her. Her screams nroimni assist

The young lady, who is alniut 17 years of
age, was taken to her home, anil with the
exception of being badly frightened and
cut about the head, is not dangerously
hurt. A number of neighbors started out
to hunt the scoundrel on Monday night
hut wi re unsuccessful. On Tuesday Con
stable Simon Adams arre-tetl an Italian
named iinseppa ( iraiano, who denied the
charge, but pointed out another Italian,
(Jiovanni Teiiza. as being the guilty party.

Daniel J. Jones, tin- oldest resident of
this vicinity, died at his home in Cambria
tow iiship. about a mile north of Klieiis
burg. on Wednesday morniut about five
o'clock, aged ss years. The deceased was
born In Wales, in May. I ;. emigrated to
this country in isioantl located in Kbens
burg when he worked at his trade, that of
a blacksmith, for many yearsuntil age ad
monished hitn that it vvas lime to retire
from his active laliors. He was esteemed
and respected by all who knew him nd
served the people for many years as a
just ice of the peace. He had no enemies,
no person ever heard of him having any,
but throughout his long life always had
the good will on everyone.

David J., of Johnstow n, John P., of West
Virginia, and Thomas, of Pittsburg, and
two daughters, Mrs. Dr. Walters, of Johns
town ami Mary, wife of Henjamiii Jones,
Cambria township. I is funeral w ill take
place on Saturday afternoon, meeting at
his late residence at one o'clock.

The next regular meeting of the Cam
bria county Farmers" Alliance will be held
on the third floor of the Anderson House at
Crt'sson on Monday. Scptemltcr "-M.
Husiness of importance to the organiza
tion will be transacted, and it is hoped that
every Alliance in the county will
be represented. Mr. J. T. Ailman. who
has been the able secretary of the Penn
solvaniii State Grange for the past four
years, will he with us. ami beside showii-g
tin; general importance anil benefits of or
ganization, will explain the Grange, which
is to-day the oldest national farmers" or
ganization in the I'nited States and the
largest in the world.
The meeting will convene immediately
after tin morning trains arrive, and w ill
adjourn in time for delegates to return
home on the evening trains.
Arrangements liave been made to ac
commodate all members al t lift Anderson
House.
The citizens of Loretto ami vicinity
have made arrangements for Mr. Ailman
to deliver an open lecture at loretto on
the same evening at s o'clock. Mr. Ail
man is known as one of the ablest and
soundest oratois of the state and his let
tore at Loretto will lie listened to with in
terest, not only by farmers, but by tin
public in general, to w hom a cordial invi
