On Monday night about one o'clock
the residence of Andrew Gntwalt in Gal
litzfn w as discovered to he on tire. Fortu
nately the discovery was made before the
flames had made much progress, and a few
buckets of water ended what might have

iginated in the hall and but little damage
was done.
A distressing accident occurred at

which was made of sawdust secured at the
Novelty Works instead of sand, ami any

On Monday evening Mrs. J. A. .shoe
maker, accompanied by her son, Walter,
started out for a. drive. When on the
plank road to I'urrwlllowii on the out
skirts of the tow u near the residence of D.
C. Philius. the hrftching of the harness
broke when the vehicle ran against the
horse which U-yau running and kicking.
The dasliltoard of the buggy w as kicked
oil and finally one w heel w as broken when
the occupants were thrown out. Mrs
Shoemaker had lur left arm broken and
received a number of bruises about the
body and il w as for a tiuie feared that she
had received Internal injuries.
A phy-iriau w as summoned w ho reduced
the fracture and since then she has oeen
getting along as well as expected and il is
believed that her internal injuries will not
prove serious. Waller Shoemaker es
caped unhurt.

cratic convention at Ebensburg on Monday
for the the express purpose of decli nii.g an v
honors that might be thrust upon me. as I
am exceedingly busy making improvements
on my farm, tint in spite of all my protests,
my friends nominated me as a candidate
for the legislature. As I am now thorough
ly convinced that it is theearne-l desire of
my party that I accept the nomination, 1
have made up my mind to do so, and will
do evt ry thing in my power in an honoiable
w ay to be elected. 1 w ill endeavor to call
on my friends in every pari of the county
and w ill state right here thai ill case I am
elected I w ill try to represent the people of

On Monday the lemocratic county con
vention met at the court house in this
place for the. purpose of placing in nomi
nation a county ticket. The delegates
wete a representative body of men and t.ie
ticket nominated will commend itself to
every Democrat in the county. The con
vention was called to order by Chairman
Woodruff at one o'clock i. i., who then
appointed Charles Huffman, of Johns
tow n, and Andrew Eckenrode of Carroll
town, to assist in rei-civim: and examining
the credentials of delegates. The roll of
