'lightning struck the barn of Henry Yost,
of INchland township, setting it alire.
The barn, which was a new one, contained
nine tons of hay, a large quantity of grain
and farming implements, and it was en
tirely consumed. Three cows were killed
immediately by the lightning, and two
perished in the flames. The horses, two
cows, and a wagon were saved. The loss

Joseph l'ringle. who was convicted at
I)cceinlier term of court of malicious mis
chief in cutting a lot of belts on the saw
mill of John Ilrowii. in Suinmel hill, and
sentenced to four months imprisonment

when he was released only to find a United
States ollicer awaiting him, w ho took him
him in charge and conveyed hint to Pitts
burg to answer a charge of counterfeiting.

It is stated that the new postal money
orders w ill soon he ready for use, and the
system is pronounced such that there is
little or no complication, and at the same
time it is a good way to send money. A
sheet calling for any amount from a cent
up to?:, lias been prepared, mid which ou

torn otT about the same as an express or
der. There w ill be no writing upon it by
the postmaster, the sender endorsing it as
a check or draft. The government guran
tees its transportation.
Tin examination of candidates for the
inspectorships of bituminous mines will
begin next Tuesday morning at o'clock
in the court house at. l'ittsburg. There
are eight bit uuiinoiis (istricts in this state,
and if the commission bill now in the Sen
ate committee Im-coiiics a law liefore the
examining board ad join lis there will be
ten districts to provide with inspectors.
The inspectores are appointed for four
years. and the terms of those now in olllce
expire this year. There arc about one
hundred and tifly applicants for eight or
ten positions.

their return from church, Mr. Anderson's

rant was issued for their arrest und the
two men who gave their names as V-jung
and Sehrailer. were brought to jail where
one of them had Im-cii a boarder heretofore.
The citizens of Cambria township in
the vicinity of Iteiilah are out with a e
tltion to the supervisors and are deter
mined to prevent a grade crossing on the
public road leading from the Pittsburg
pike to lieulah. Near the deserted village
the railroad crosses the public road with a
till of eighteen feet and the railroad com
pany proposes to till up the road on each
side, so that the road crosses at grade.
The cltieiis of the vicinity want the rail
road to cross the public road .villi a bridge,
alleging that to coss the railroad at grade
w ill make a steep hill to pull up, and on
account of a curve and cut in close prox
imity, a dangerous place for teams to
ruin.

ing how many dollars this pair of molds
has turned out. Two other molds were
found, but they were faulty and had not
been used. Who used them and how they
got there, no one knows but the parlies

A series of lires occurred in Morrison's
Cove, fllair county, on Tuesday of last
week. The barn of Jolm Yingling was

with a two-horse team and carriage.
