It is well known that dry sand Is one
of the hest things that can he used tor kill
ing an incipient oil tin, and some factoi it s

ments. It is now suggested that mary

the ornamental vases In the room filled
with sand, so that it would e always at

A fatal accident occurred on Thursday
morning about :: o'clock al a point on
the I'eniisylvaiiia and Northwestern Rail
road krown as Kock Cuts, alxuit two miles
south of I Joydsvillv, in which Joseph
Hincs lost his life. Mr. Ilines was fore
man in charge of blasting w hen he met his
death. He had set off a blast and was
running away from it for safety, up a
ste, p dei liv ity. In his haste lie stumbled
ami fell backward directly on top of the
charge silumtaiieoiis with its explosion.
His chest ami left arm was shattered and
maiiiricd in a hot rible manner, resulting in
instant death. He was utxuit 40 years of
age ami a widower with one son. whose
whereabouts are unknown.

groom is one of Cambria county's model
young men, and the bride is voting, hand
some, and fully equipoed for her calling in

received at Dunlo on Tuesday from Pitts
burg ordering the cutting of ties for the
extension of the South Fork branch of the
Pennsylvania railroad from Duulo to Scalp
Lev' and a I'ennsy ivanla company engi
neer says the work w ill be pushed so that
the new line can handle the output of the
Scalp Level .-oal mines In the spring. It is
ajso found that these mines can lie oerat
ed without sinking a shaft, as all of the
veins crop out near the level. Five veins
are located there, with an average thick-H.-S.S
of twenty-six feet, the liest of the
coal tteing found In what is known as the
Lemon vein, seven feet thick, the coal frum
which Is used for liirtking coke.
The Philadelphia parties w ho are t ehind
the big project have tieen here and are now
extending their option on mineral lands
at ou l Scalp Level. It is stated that the
work of the South Fork extension of the
railroad will tie managed by Superintend
ent of Construction l.eolge, of Pittsburg.
