the following dispatch from Johnstown:
A movement is now on foot by w hich t be
P.altiiimrc A- Ohio railroad will penetrate
the rich bituminous coal fields of the 11011 It
em pr rt of Cambria. Some years ago the
Pennsylvania Railroad, in consideration of
track room privileges, transferred to the
Cumbria Iron Company its right- in the
OKI Portage Railroad from this place to a
point uluve Concmaugh. retaining only
the privilege of laying a side track to the
t iauiier Steel Works. Now . by an amica
ble agreement between the Cambria Com
pany and the Raltimore - Ohio, it i--aid
this route will be u-cd by the latter, cross
ing the Pennsylvania by means of an
overhead bridge' near the viaduct at South
Fork.
The extremely friendly attitude of the
CambriaCompauy tn the Raltimore it Ohio
Is explained by the fact that the Iron
Works owns large blocks of the hitter's
stock iu the branch road extending from
Rockwood to their works in this place.
The Pennsylvania is not idle and their
branch to the coal fields of the north is be
ing rapidly pushed. Since this new move
of the Raltimore it Ohio has become pub
lic, the Pennsylvania has th t-rmined to al
so huild a diverging branch to the Rlack
