Calvary, one of the new regiments formed
by rresidt-Lt Lincoln, and the following
year was appointed hy (Jov. Curtin Colonel
of the Kith. Pennsylvania Calvary, with
w hich he served tvi th distinction during the
war having been brevetted Brigadier and
Major General for distinguished and meri
torious services. At the clo-e of the w ar
len. Gregg was made Colonel of the Eighth
Cniteti States Cavalry and served in that
capacity until April, isry, when he was re
tired for disability in tho line of duty.
Since his retirenittit General Gregg has re
sided at Washington. He was sixty-tive
years of age.
