John Michaels, of Jackson township,
died at his home In that tow nshipon Tues
day morning, aged 7-' years. The d.-eas-ed
was attacked with cramp on Sunday
night and continued to jrmw worse until
Tuesday morning, when death came.

to Pittsburg on Wednesday for the pur

On Sunday last Rohson Tihr. who lives
at Oiupcvillc. Westmoreland county, met
with an accident that almost ended his
life. He was o)ieiiiug a Jar of iM-aches,
hen the jar broke and cut his wrist in a
terrible manner. All the arteries and veins
were cut. and it was with the greatest diffi
culty that his life was saved.
One night last week John L.smard. a
prisoner in the county jail, who was siis-IH-cled
by Warden Young of having an in
clination to leave, was searched ami in his
eel! was found an inm bar which he had
in someway succeeded in sawing fmniliis

to utilize in attempting to dig through the

On Wednesday morning two Huns
were struck by a wcst-lmiind locomotive
a short distance west of Lilly. One Sieve
Porwisky was killed instantly, wliile his
companion, MikeSesko. wasbadly injured
and laid for several hours alongside of the
track until found by some repair hands.
They were both miners and had liecu

w hen they started on a tramp.
.Install Evans, mine inspector for this
district, is much pleased with the mine
law now liefore the legislature. He says
its provisions are the best of any he has
ever seen, and he hoics that it w ill pass
without amendment. The fact that this
law was recommended by the miners"
committee and by the inspectors, and
faile 1 to get the endorsements of tlie oper

Jacob Carpenter, a prominent mer
chant of Ilediord county, met witliaery
remarkable accident on Monday, which
resulted in his death. M r. Cnrioii ter was
chasing some cattle on his farm, which
adjoins his .store, with his hat pulled

tact with a scantling protruding over a

producing internal injuries, which caused

On Satnnlay evening, while Mr. and
Mrs. Patrick McDonald, of Portage, were

contents fell on one of the children burn

was also badly scorched and had it not

The liuilding where tho fire originated was
one built after the flood by the Itoard of
Health. It was occtipi.-d by Mr. Scoff

some effects stori-d which were burned
