An Old Landmark.
The boronph authorities are filling up
the old well on the pavement in front of
the store-room of Mr. W. C. Shields, on
High street. Recently the pavement over
the well has N-cii sinking and the street
commissioner on AVitlnesday uncovered it
and found it to be dangerous, when it was
decided to fill the well up. It is about
forty-five feet deep and had about twenty
five "feet of water in it.
When it was originally dug the oldest In
habitant docs not seem to know. About
thirty years ago it was filled up by the bor
ough authorities and about ten years later
It was again cleaned out at the expense or
the borough, for the purpose of getting
water in case or fire. It was a wise expen
diture, as the water from this well saved
the town from destruction when the old
shop on the Gurlcy property burm-d down.
The building of the waterworks made the
old well useless and it was again closed up.
covered with locust posts and about a foot
of earth, and Then paved. It has h-cn re
pard.tl as dangerous for some time and fill
ing It up is the lxst thing to do with It.
A family Doty.
The home circle is sacred and life has
few charms indeed if family ties arc burst
asunder. The promotion of happiness and
the prevention of sickness are of prime ira
Mrtance in every household. It is in the
spring that old and young alike are most
susceptible to the hundreds of diseases that
fill the atmosphere we breathe and the wa
ter we drink. The timely use of a reliable
stimulant is the only sure wav to guard
against sickness in the home. Max Klein's

A TVord For the llarkabafk Towel.
In our estimation there is no towel like
a Huck towel it is pleasant to use, it ab
sorbs the moisture quickly, it always looks
neat and cian. It Is made of fjnei linen
than the Crash toweling. It is a kind Da
mask, but much softer than the regular
German Damask. The warp and woof
cross each other at Intervals of five threads,
thus producing a uniform figure. There is
no towel like the Huckaback towel. We
have them at 5. 12"-, 10. l, 23 and 25 cents
each, and you'll be pleased with any of
them that vou buy. There is no towel like
