prevents financial embarrassment is the
fact that tin holders of the national
bank notes do not present them for re
demption. These figures abundantly
lear out Senator Carlisle's estimate of
the condition of the treasury at the close
of the fiscal year. That is, there will 1
a deficit of nearly $1",(K0,000, increased
to $SO,IMH),000 at the close of the next
fiscal year in 1S'.2.
That will le a splendid showing to
go to the people at the presidential
election of 18'.2, esecially if Harrison
and Cleveland, as the representatives of
the two policies, one illustrated by a big
surplus and the other by a big deficit
with increased taxes, should be oppos

took off his hat. on which was fastened his
