The railroad runs within a mile of our vil
lage and will be a great benefit to tbe peo
ple In this locality. A tew town, Hastings
City, is laid out one and a quarter miles
from St. Boniface and is budding up vety
fast. The location is a good one and tbe
new town Is already larger than curs, al-too-jgh
we have the ace on them by thirty
years.
Last week lhie were thirty-one building
lots sold in Hastings City and everything
there is booming. A number of new builds
Ingsare projected and befote long Hastings
City will be one of the busiest towns In tne
north of the county. St- Boniface Is also
getting livlier every day since the advent of
the iron horse. We have coal and otber
minerals enough In this section to supply
one or more railroads for several hundred
years, of the best quality. At leatt that Is
the reports of the experts who baye exam
ined it. Every farm has been leased and

SKELLY Died in Waco, Texas on Mon
day. June 27ih. 1888, Mr. James Skelly.

The subject of tbe above notice was born
and raised in Sammerbili township. Cam
bria county, and was a son of John Skelly,
deceased, and brother of Daniel. Alexander
and Thilip Skelly. who stlil live near the
old homestead.
Wnen the call was made for troops for the
war with Mexico he enrolled in tne ' Old
Cambria Guards" Company A, 2d Pennsyl
vania Vols, under Captain Jauies Murray
and served w::h credit iu all the emtast
cients his command was eoaged in. After
his ittura he taught school and for a time
rau an eomne on the Old Portage railroad.
He, about that time was united in marriage
to Sarah Siner, daughter of John Singer, of
Jackson towusMp.and soon after removed to
JefTeraon county, Iowa, where he located his
land warrant, but tiring of tbe West be in a
year or two turned his face eastward and
returned to Wilmore and rau an engine on
the P. K. II. for a time when be again res
traced his steps toward the fcettiti aun and
located on the Missouri Itiver in Harrison
county. Iowa. When the Pikes Peak cold
excitement struck the country he was
caught In the whirl and after an unsuccess
ful 8 "arch for tue shining metal he return
ed to bis home in Iowa. which be
soon af.er sell and removed to Kansas;

Arkansas and from there found his way to
